Terminal-3’s Jonathan Paul, Serge Djang and John Beck live and work in Los Angeles. However, when it’s time to record their music, they rarely gather. Instead taking advantage of high-speed internet connections they concoct some of the most exiting new electronica the city of Angels has to offer.
“My inspiration comes from spy flicks, 60’s lounge, and airport music, whatever that is…” recalls John Beck, who plays a variety of instruments, including guitar and keyboards. Serge Djang brings a well rounded knowledge of world beat, having played all over the world as a professional bass player. “I feel I contribute the funk and soul to the project, it’s my way to pay respect to my musical hero’s – such as Manu Dibango, the first ever african artist to have a single debut in the american Soul and R&B charts.”
Jonathan Paul, the founder of the project, brings 15 years of percussion and programming. “I grew up with Rock and Roll, Hip Hop and DJ music, so to work with these guys with their wide ranges of music makes it that much more of an exciting collaboration.”
The graphics that surround Terminal-3 are based on a jet setting girl who travels the globe in search of the perfect rhythm. She is fashionable and savvy as she escapades through Tokyo, Marakesh, Prague, and the Brazilian Rainforests. “The artwork reflects the core of T-3”, says John Beck, “We’re an airport terminal that sends listeners to destinations of cool, thus she’s much like a musical travel agent… and a bit like a secret agent…”
